Dear Single Mom: Stop Measuring Your Success by What You Don’t Have
Share
As single moms, it’s easy to focus on what’s missing.
The extra income.
The helping hand.
The partner.
The free time.
The easier life we imagined.
Social media doesn’t make it any easier. Every day we’re exposed to highlight reels that can leave us feeling like we’re somehow falling behind.
But what if success isn’t measured by what you don’t have?
What if success is measured by everything you’ve overcome?
The truth is, many single moms are accomplishing extraordinary things every single day without even realizing it.
Success is getting out of bed when you’re exhausted.
Success is making sure your children feel loved even when life feels heavy.
Success is showing up to work, paying bills, managing schedules, and carrying responsibilities that were never meant for one person alone.
Success is choosing healing when bitterness would be easier.
Success is continuing to believe in better days when the current season feels difficult.
For so long, I measured my life against other people’s journeys.
I compared my struggles to their victories.
My beginning to their middle.
My reality to their highlight reel.
And every time I did, I walked away feeling discouraged.
The moment I stopped comparing and started appreciating how far I’d come, everything changed.
I realized that I wasn’t failing.
I was growing.
I wasn’t behind.
I was building.
I wasn’t lacking.
I was becoming.
Single Momma, your journey may not look like someone else’s, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable.
The late nights.
The sacrifices.
The prayers.
The tears.
The victories nobody sees.
They all matter.
And one day, you’ll look back and realize that what felt like survival was actually strength being built.
Today, I want to encourage you to celebrate your progress.
Not perfection.
Progress.
Celebrate the fact that you’re still here.
Still fighting.
Still loving.
Still showing up.
Because that alone is something to be proud of.
Stop measuring your success by what you don’t have.
Start measuring it by the woman you’re becoming.
Still Showing Up.
Still Becoming.
Unfiltered.
